Alphonce Felix Simbu edged out Amanol Petros by just 0.03 seconds to win a sensational men's marathon at the World Athletics Championships.
Just 24 hours after Peres Jepchirchir and Tigst Assefa served up a thriller in the women's event, Tanzania's Simbu and Germany's Petros contrived something even more spectacular in the Tokyo heat.
After tussling it out on the roads, Petros looked in control as the pair entered the national stadium.
However, Simbu, who was runner-up in Boston earlier this year, timed his sprint to perfection to become Tanzania's first global gold medalist.
Both runners were credited with 2:09:48 with Italy's Iliass Aouani just five second behind in third.
